This the statue of Omkar, a Hindu God, the monument located at Grand Bassin, Mauritius was unveiled by the Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam on 27 February 2000 to commemorate the seventy fifth anniversary of the Hindu Maha Sabna which was founded on 27 February 1925. God Omkar is said to be the eternal god, eternal word and sound. God Omkar is known in the Hindu beliefs to be the pure and holy form of Maheshwar Shivji and is also the symbol of the Maheshwar Sada Shaktiman Shiv. Om is a familiar a syllable to Hindus; it occurs in almost all of the Hindu prayers, the invocation to each Hindu begins with the syllable “OM” as Om Shanti, Hari Om or Om Namaha Shivaya. Actually “OM” is pronounced as “AUM”. Om exists also in Christianity and in Islam as Amen and Amin. The religious significance of the syllable OM doesn’t only belong to the Indian culture. It has existed in ancient and modern civilization.
