The Mauritius Kestrel is an endemic bird from Mauritius. The Kestrel was a bird very near to extinction. The binomial name of the Mauritius Kestrel is Falco punctatus.

 

The habitat of the Mauritius Kestrel is in tropical forest as Black River Gorges Forest, tropical scrub forest and tropical deciduous.


The Mauritius Kestrel is usually a solitary creature. There weight can be up to 250 grams and can measure between 26 and 30 cm. In captivity, the kestrel can live up to fifteen years.


Because of the deforestation and cyclones, the number of the kestrels started to diminish.

 

The kestrel has been even at a known as the world’s rarest bird.

 

There has been a big work done so that the kestrel doesn’t get extinct.

 


The kestrels are monitored in the Black River Gorges. Nowadays the kestrel is not in extinction but the population needs to be very careful.
