The Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and of Industry is known to be the oldest non profitable institution in Mauritius representing the private sector.
The institution has been created in 1850. There has been in the first decade, when Mauritius was under the British control, an increase in the volume of trade in Mauritius.
At this time the community of Mauritian business felt that was a need of a representational framework to settle the conflicts which may arise in trading activities.
