Mauritius Island is very famous for two stamps, the 1847 blue two pence stamp and the 1847 red one penny stamps. These two stamps form part of the two rarest stamps of the world.
In September 1847, Mauritius made part of the history, as it was the fifth country in the world to issue postage stamps.
A lot of people may not know where Mauritius is located but know about Blue Mauritius for the blue stamp.
Mauritius is of course very proud being one of the first countries to deliver postage stamps.
There were 1000 stamps of both Blue Stamps and Red Stamps produced.
These two stamps are very valuable ones and of course, all philatelists of the world want to have one of them.
Some have been sold in auction for a very very high price.
The last stamps of the first issue are some in the hands of private collectors but can be seen in the British Library in London where you can also see the envelope of the invitation to the Governor’s ball at the period the stamp was issued, where the stamp is on.
