Mauritius is a small island in the Indian Ocean close to Madagascar, South Africa and Seychelles. Officially Mauritius is known as Republic of Mauritius.

 

The country attained independence in 1968 from the United Kingdom and before the island was under the commonwealth.Mauritius has a population of around 1.2 million. It is a lot for a small island as Mauritius.

 

Even making part of the African continent the island is considered as a developing country not any more as a third world country.

 

Mauritius has been formed years ago, around 8 million years, by undersea volcanic eruptions.

 

Mauritius Island forms part of the Mascarene Islands with Reunion and Rodrigues.

 

There are no active volcano on Mauritius Island contrary to Reunion Island, the volcano is known as Piton de La Fournaise.

 

Mauritius Island has a tropical climate and has two weather seasons, summer and winter.

 

The capital city of Mauritius Island is Port Louis and some of the main towns are Curepipe, Beau basin, Vacoas, Rose Hill, Quatre Bornes.

Mauritius is as big as Hamburg, a city, in Germany; it has an area of 2040 square kms.

One of the main income of Mauritius is tourism but also textile.

Mauritius is surrounded of nice white sandy beaches and blue turquoise sea.
