The Ganga Talao also known as Grand Bassin. Located in the higher plateau of Mauritius Island, the place is considered as sacred lake since 1998 because it has said that the lake is connected to the Ganges River in India. The lake is around one thousand hundred feet above the sea level. In Grand Bassin there is a temple which has been dedicated to the Lord Shiva, a Hindu god. Every year the Hindu pilgrims from Mauritius walk to the Ganga Talao bare feet from their house. There has been a lot of construction which has been done at Grand Bassin to facilitate the pilgrimage to the place, there are special prayer areas. The Ganga Talao is also one of the main attractions of Mauritius Island. The lake is full of fish and eel but it is completely forbidden to fish in the lake as it is considered holy to the Hindu community. In the place you can see the different Hindu gods which are most of with animals head and human bodies. For Hindu communities there is a lot of animal considered sacred as cows or monkeys.
