In Port Louis, capital city of Mauritius, is located the headquarters of the State Bank. The State Bank headquarters is located at Queen Elizabeth II Avenue. The State Bank has been founded in 1973 and is the second largest bank of the island. The bank was founded by the government of Mauritius under the name of State Commercial Bank. They first opened their overseas branch in 1994 in Mumbai. In 1997 the South African Bank Nedcor associated to the State Bank by acquiring 20.1 % of the voting equity and opened another branch in Chennai. The State Bank has different branches in the country and large number of ATM’s. In Port Louis there are State Bank branches at Labourdonnais Street, Cassis, Plaine Verte, Pope Hennessy Street and Royal Street.
