The cape turtle dove is an abundant bird species usually in bush, woodlands and farmlands mainly in the east part of Africa. Here in Mauritius you can watch the cape turtle dove in the Casela Bird Park in Black River. This bird is also known as half-collared dove or ring-necked dove. There is no much differences between male and female cape turtle dove only that usually the male is a little bigger. When the cape turtle dove is in groups it is a quite noisy bird. Their main food is usually seeds but they also eat sometimes insects as flying ants. There is no special breeding period for the cape turtle dove; they breed at any time of the year.
