The indian temples look splendid often very colourful with different gods. The indian believe and pray in different god which represent different things. For Maha Shivaratri the Mauritian Indians  will go to Grand Bassin, a sacred lake found in the central part of the island, to pray the god Shiva. Over fifty percent of the Mauritian population are indian as in the past a lot of slaves have been imported from india to work in the sugar cane fields. After the abolition of slavery, they stayed on the island most of had a piece of land so they decided to go on with their life in Mauritius instead returning back to India.
