But the sugar is also whitened because it is thought that the red sugar is for the Mauritian consumers and white sugar for mainly tourists. The red sugar is also less expensive than the white one. But the tourists adore the fine brown sugar too. And it is often said that the red sugar is more sweet that the white one. It is just a question of taste.
